Only $5.00 per car for entry, and definitely worth it! We had a wonderful time observing the Elk, Bison, and Turkeys! The current population is listed as 60 Elk and 70 Bison. The day we went, we were able to see 5 Elk, 12 Turkeys, and about 30 Bison. We made two loops through the prairie and took it all in thoroughly. I definitely recommend visiting this place if you're interested in wildlife and in the area!
We went last night at 430pm. Stopped and talked to a volunteer who showed us some Elk horns. They said they hadn't seen many bison this season but it was the end of the elk rut so there may be some out. We saw SO many elk! Then the next day at 10am we decided to just stop by again and see if there was any chance we'd see the elk again. We got a HUGE (literal) surprise when not only did we see elk but also around 40 bison!! Such a cool experience
What an adventure driving the 3.5 miles loop through the 700 acre Elk and Bison prairie reserve which was like a Safari. We got stuck in the middle of a Bison herd for about an hour. We had a few Bison rubbing against the front of our truck making it shake hard. You will see stunning native grasslands as would have been 200 years ago. The herds are around 50 Elk and 50 Bison. The $5.00 fee to enter is money well spent to maintain this incredible habitat. I tried to get Diana to stand beside a Bison for a picture but no luck. Lol
We were very fortunate and saw several bison lounging along the edge of the trees. The roads are pretty well kept and safe for driving your vehicles. We definitely enjoyed our visit. Well worth $5!
We bought our ticket/ souvenir card at the planetarium. Short drive north to the prairie. We saw bison right next to the entrance but nothing else the rest of the drive. But it was a nice dtive and great to think about how wonderful it is to have these places to encourage nature and build up a natural population.
